As set out in the video and the architectural renderings presented on the Cathedral’s website at www.preciousbloodssm.com, our vision is to create ‘The Gathering Pace’, which will include a walkway beginning with a fountain flowing into a water feature symbolizing our journey from baptism to eternal life. Appropriately, along this walkway will be an artistic depiction of our Catholic history, remarkable for its good works and achievements by the laity, priests and religious congregations of men and women. To provide a space of quiet and peace in the busy downtown, there will be a reflective garden dedicated to Our Lady. A multi-use building will be constructed, which will meet the needs of the parish family and provide for needs within the broader Catholic community. It will be designed to house a repository for the history of Catholicism in the area, display artifacts and acknowledge the contributions of former parishes and the diverse nationalities that they served. At the end of the walkway will be a columbarium for the interment of ashes of our loved ones.
The year 1975 marked the 100th Anniversary of the building of the Church of the Sacred Heart, now Precious Blood Cathedral. The whole year was devoted to great celebration. As part of this celebration, and through the concerted effort of a number of faithful parishioners and clergy, Precious Blood Cathedral received Ontario Historic Site designation. This was a considerable undertaking at that time and an official plaque was erected at the front of the Cathedral in recognition of this achievement. Precious Blood Cathedral will remain central to the development on the Cathedral property with all uses flowing to and from the Cathedral.
