We are happy to announce that ‘the Journey’ Gala was a spectacular success.
Close to 400 people attended to celebrate the work of all Catholics, young and old, to remember our past and inspire all of us to continue the good works of our Catholic community. All parishes were represented and heard the uplifting words of Cardinal McCarrick who explained the importance of ‘the Journey’ to our community and its place in the Pope’s call for Social Justice and Good Works. The Bishop called on all of us to do whatever we can to ensure the success of ‘the Journey’. Mark Barsanti, chair of the Major Donors Committee, gave an arousing call to action and announced that his Committee had received pledges for close to $1,300,000 to date. This is one third of our way to our goal of $4,000,000. The Gala raised more than $30,000. The speeches from the Gala will be posted on our website in the New Year.
Although we have had a good start toward our goal, there is much to be done. The Journey Lottery is our next large project. The first draw for $1000 will be held on January 25th. This will only be successful with the assistance of all Catholics. Take books of tickets to sell. With draws taking place every week for 49 weeks, they make terrific Christmas gifts that last all year long. Tickets are also sold online at the Cathedral website – www.preciousbloodssm.com.
In January, we will be kicking off our fund drive to raise individual pledges for $1,000,000 over 5 years. The Journey is important to all Catholics. Give generously and spread the word. There are generous tax credits. For donation planning, call the Cathedral office to arrange an appointment.
