Pope Francis has called all Catholics to work for Social Justice and perform Good Works. Bishop Jean Louis has asked Precious Blood Cathedral to take a leadership role in the preservation of our past and the revitalization of our present. He reminds us that as we stand on the shoulders of all who have gone before us, future generations will stand on our shoulders enjoying what we have preserved and celebrated. All Catholics, especially our young, should take pride in the Good Works that Catholics have contributed to the community in the past and be inspired to continue our tradition of giving, performing Good Works and working for Social Justice.
All Catholics can be proud of the Good Works and achievements of our laity, priests and religious congregations of men and women. Here are a few examples. The Grey Sisters provided health care to all in our community for one hundred and sixteen years. The Sisters of St. Joseph provided Catholic education to our youth in elementary schools while the Basilian Fathers brought Catholic secondary school education to our community. Without their pioneering, there would be no Catholic education in our schools. The Daughters of Wisdom worked to assist the French community while the Stigmatine Fathers worked with new immigrants. This history of giving and Good Works should make us proud and inspire us to continue this tradition.
