As set out earlier, Pope Francis and our Bishop Jean Louis have called us to work for Social Justice and to do Good Works. A major part of The Journey is the establishment of a Center for Social Justice and Good Works, in which those who have come before them will inspire our young people. It is intended that a partnership between the church, school and home to engage young people in our community to work for the benefit of the community. There are many examples of young people involved in community projects, but rarely are they in positions of leadership. Our high school students are required to complete forty hours of community work before graduating. We can act as a clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities to ensure the best experiences for them. We intend to engage our young people as follows: engage adults as effective role models for youth; demonstrate an understanding of social responsibility; encourage youth to develop a greater understanding of self and empathy for others; develop opportunities for youth to dialogue and connect with adults in a problem solving manner; give youth credit for civic action that benefits the community; provide skills training in leadership, communications and media; and propel youth into the leadership roles in the community. Our Catholic faith has much to offer to benefit all of those around us. For updates on The Journey, please check our website regularly at www.preciousbloodssm.com.
